About stanfordvsa
English (USA)

Founded in 1988, the Stanford Vietnamese Student Association (SVSA) has served as both a family and as a support network for Vietnamese students at Stanford University. SVSA members seek to share their rich cultural heritage with the Stanford campus community and foster the development of social and cultural ties with the greater Bay Area community.

Since its establishment, the scope and objectives of SVSA have grown along with the organization. SVSA currently supports active members who lead and participate in many programs benefiting the community, including several that focus on helping high school students, whom we recognize as the future leaders of the Vietnamese and American communities. Our Mentoring Program has paired high school students each with a Stanford student, who helps their young mentees navigate through important decisions about higher education and encourage active involvement in community service. A newly launched program, called College Application Perfection Program (CAPP), assists high school seniors with the actual college application process through essay-writing advice and SAT prep workshops.

In addition, SVSA annually hosts a campus-wide celebration of Tet, the Vietnamese name of the Lunar New Year. We work in collaboration with the other Asian-American student groups on campus for this event. Together, we share with the Stanford the unique meaning of the new year to different cultures. The Lunar New Year Celebration showcases both professional and student performances and a wide array of cultural foods.

SVSA has also received many honors, including invitations to perform at awards ceremonies such as The Stanford Asian American Awards, as well as Parents' Weekend and Extravaganza.
