FarmShare 1 retirement

The existing FarmShare environment (the corn, rye, and barley systems) is scheduled for retirement on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. A replacement environment, FarmShare 2<https://web.stanford.edu/group/farmshare/cgi-bin/wiki/index.php/FarmShare_2>, is already in service, and should be used for all new work.

Don’t panic!

FarmShare 1 will remain in service through the end of Autumn Quarter 2017 to support current coursework and give users time to make an orderly transition to the new environment.

The cardinal systems are not affected by this change, and will remain in service for light-duty, interactive workloads including e-mail, web development, file editing, AFS access, and file transfers. These systems should not be used for long-running or compute- and/or memory-intensive work.

FarmShare 2!

FarmShare 2 is intended for use in coursework and unsponsored research; users participating in sponsored research should investigate the Sherlock<https://sherlock.stanford.edu/> service, instead. Like the old environment, FarmShare 2 is not approved for use with high-risk data. Initial documentation is available on the SRCC website<https://srcc.stanford.edu/farmshare2/>, and in the FarmShare wiki<https://farmshare.stanford.edu/>.

To connect, log into the rice systems:

ssh sunetid at rice.stanford.edu<mailto:sunetid at rice.stanford.edu>

Please contact srcc-support at stanford.edu<mailto:srcc-support at stanford.edu> with any questions, comments, or concerns!
