GO Annotation of human proteome

The EBI has just released a set of GO annotations for a human proteome
set based on protein sequences taken from the SWISS-PROT, TrEMBL and
Ensembl databases. 66997 annotations have been added to 16492 proteins
through a combination of manual and electronic methods.

We intend in future to release GO Annotations for the SWISS-PROT/TrEMBL
proteome sets of all completely sequenced organisms. See
http://www.ebi.ac.uk/proteome/goa/goaHelp.html for more details of this
project, and specific information relating to the human data.

The human gene association file (gene_association.goa), and a README
file, are available for download now from the EBI at

ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/GO/goa/HUMAN/

and from GO (from tomorrow) at

ftp://ftp.geneontology.org/pub/go/doc/goa.README
ftp://ftp.geneontology.org/pub/go/gene-associations/gene_association.goa

or from GO now by anonymous CVS.

An additional file of cross-references mapping the annotated proteins to
entries in other databases (e.g. RefSeq, HUGO, EMBL etc.) is also
available at ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/GO/goa/HUMAN/xrefs.goa

If you require further information, please send inquires to
