The new DAG-Edit search tool: Basic Searches
Wed Feb 18 13:00:51 PST 2004
To do a basic search:
1) Make sure the NOT box is unchecked
2) Choose "child" in the first dropdown box
3) Choose "with" in the second dropdown box
4) Choose your search criterion from the third dropdown box.
5) Choose the comparison type from the fourth dropdown box
6) Type in the value you want to compare against.
7) Click search.
The search control works exactly the same way as it did in earlier versions of
DAG-Edit as long as you make sure that the first two boxes contain "child"
and "with". There are many more search criteria, but the ones you've come to
know and love from earlier versions of DAG-Edit are still there at the
beginning of the list.
I STRONGLY suggest that everyone read the new version of the DAG-Edit user's
guide that ships with DAG-Edit (you can access it via the Help menu or with
your favorite html browser by going to <dagedit installation dir>/docs/
index.html ). The user's guide contains a complete explanation of how the new
searches work, including instructions on how to load/save searches, how to do
complex boolean searches, and how to use the new search tool to filter/color
your main DAG panel.
The new search tool is the most powerful new addition to DAG-Edit in a long
time. As the ontologies grow more complex, they will become unusable without
the new visualization and filtering abilities that come with the new search
tool. So go ahead, try it out. Everybody's doing it. You want to be cool,
The first search is free, man.
