Subject: Automated installation of enhanced GO database build

Hi Midori,

We have just released our 'wizard' for automated installation of the
'traditional' or 'enhanced' GO database build. The enhancement consists of a
retro-fitted mechanism for permitting queries by HUGO name, while
maintaining full backward compatibility. I have a powerpoint presentation
that describes the enhancement mechanism in some detail. I will try to get
that posted on the gominer site soon.

This runs only in a Unix environment, including mac OS X.

A local database build greatly increases the performance of applications
that access the GO database. However, installation is moderately difficult
for a non-specialist. Our resource lowers the energy barrier for someone who
would benefit from a local installation but is not willing to try it on
their own.

It is available for download from
http://discover.nci.nih.gov/gominer/enhance.jsp (first bulleted item).

If you think that this would be useful to GO users and developers, we would
be pleased if you were to provide a hyperlink from the GO Consortium web
site.

Barry
