Announcement of the removal of old GO database FTP files

Recently, Mike Cherry requested comments on a proposal to selectively
delete older GO database FTP files. Since there have been no objections
to this proposal, we plan on making the following changes to the GO
database FTP site on February 1, 2006.

GO Full
-------
Contains dumps the GO database performed on the 1st of every month.
These files include all data, including IEAs. Every directory will be
kept.

GO Lite
-------
Contains dumps the GO database performed once a week on Sunday. These
files include all data, except IEAs. Every directory will be kept for
the first 6 months. Thereafter, the 3rd directory of each month will
be kept.

GO Termdb
---------
Contains dumps the GO database performed every day. These files
contain only the gene ontology, not the annotations. Every directory
will be kept for the first 6 months. Between 6 months and 1 year, one
directory per week (Thursday) will be kept. After 1 year, all GO Term
directories will be removed, since the ontology can be obtained from
the archived GO Lite or GO Full dumps.

Please contact go-admin at genome.stanford.edu with any concerns or
questions about this proposal. Thank you.
