Dear Colleagues,
We have an open position for a Biocurator at dictyBase, the model
organism database for Dictyostelium discoideum. The database
consists of a small group of bioinformatic engineers and scientific
curators who work closely together in a stimulating environment to
develop a leading bioinformatics resource to annotate the genome of
Dictyostelium. We are located at Northwestern University in downtown
Chicago, IL, USA.
dictyBase Biocurators use state of the art bioinformatics tools,
extensive literature searches, and direct involvement with the
scientific community to assign gene function, catalog phenotypes, and
manage strain inventories from labs all over the world. Curators
also work with software engineers to create new curation tools and
collaborate in user interface design. dictyBase is a member of the
Gene Ontology Consortium (GOC) and contributor to the Generic Model
Organism Database Project (GMOD). Thus, we work in close
collaboration with other databases to develop tools to annotate and
display functional gene annotations.
Curation of dictyBase requires research experience with a model
organism, preferably using Dictyostelium and strong computer skills.
The successful candidate holds a Ph. D. in molecular biology/genetics/
genomics. Please send a letter of interest and a CV along with the
names of three references to r-chisholm at northwestern.edu.
