Hi all,
we just published a paper about our new GOTax platform in Genome Biology.
It integrates proteins, protein families, GO, and the taxonomy, and allows
searches combining the different data types. Additionally, it provides
functional similarity measures based on GO.
You can find the paper at http://genomebiology.com/2007/8/3/R33, and GOTax at
http://gotax.bioinf.mpi-inf.mpg.de.
Here is the abstract:
We describe GOTax (http://gotax.bioinf.mpi-inf.mpg.de/), a comparative genomics
platform that integrates protein annotation with protein family classification
and taxonomy. User-defined sets of proteins, protein families, annotation terms
or taxonomic groups can be selected and compared, allowing for the analysis of
distribution of biological processes and molecular activities over different
taxonomic groups. In particular, a measure of functional similarity is available
for comparing proteins and protein families, establishing functional
relationships independent of evolution.
Kind regards,
Andreas
