[liberationtech] PsiphonX beta is live -- your feedback is needed

Dear liberation-techers,

Psiphon needs your help.

We are about to launch a prototype proxy client called PsiphonX. It’s an attempt to work around some of the shortcomings of link-rewriting proxies. The original Psiphon system works well with Web 1.0 content but it’s a constant battle to support sites like YouTube and Facebook.

PsiphonX runs from a single executable file which configures the Internet proxy settings of a machine to point HTTP traffic to a local proxy that then forwards the traffic to a Psiphon in-proxy via a secure connection (via an SSH Tunnel). When the user quits PsiphonX, the original Internet configuration is reset.

We developed this prototype rapidly so there are sure to be bugs, design flaws and other issues... and that’s the request we have to you:

Try it, break it, help us make it better and more secure.

We’ve created a public PsiphonX link that points to Facebook. It can be found here:

PsiphonX is a work in progress. For the moment the client only runs on the Windows platform, but we have already built an early MAC OS X prototype, and support for other operating systems will be forthcoming depending on demand.

PsiphonX and the entire Psiphon project is open source. We’ve tried to provide as much documentation as possible. Its all there for anyone to kick at and we are really looking for community input - good, bad and ugly.

Muchas Gracias in advance!
