Hi,

It's not a news article, but I'd highly recommend Television: Technology
and Cultural Form by Raymond Williams, written at a time when cable and
satellite TV and affordable video cameras were just beginning to emerge.
The first few pages do a nice job of characterising and criticising
opinions which can be found in almost identical form in recent debates,
with the word "internet" substituted for "television":
