Subject: Invitation to EWIDE conference at Stanford (May 3)
To: ieee-list at

 Hi Everyone,

We would like to invite you the first Engineering Welfare & Innovation in
Developing Economies (EWIDE) conference. The Engineering Welfare &
Innovation in Developing Economies (EWIDE) conference aims to discuss the
challenges and future roadmap in designing engineering technologies that
can empower developing economies, especially women in such economies. The
conference will bring together social entrepreneurs, industry leaders,
researchers, and students from a wide variety of engineering disciplines to
spark a lively debate on the design aspects, successes and failures in
technology design for developing economies. We hope that the conference
will motivate you to think about technology design from a humanistic
perspective and network with others working toward this goal.

*This is the time to envision a wider impact of technology in advancing
humanity! Come to EWIDE and learn from those who have worked or are working
on such technologies!*
The EWIDE speakers have successfully led such projects and include :

   - Dr. Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg (Founder and Executive Director of Akili
Dada, Winner of Obama Champions of Change Award 2012)
   - Bridgette Sexton (Program Manager, Google Africa)
   - Pooja Upadhyaya (Founder, Mobilizing Health)
    - Eva Enns (Stanford Researcher in Health Policy for developing
   economies) .

The conference is jointly hosted by Women in Electrical Engineering (WEE)
and Stanford IEEE Women in Engineering (WiE) student groups. Come and join
us on *May 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the 3rd floor of the Huang
Engineering Center (Mackenzie Room)* in what proves to be an extremely
inspiring, educational and entertaining event.
Please find more details about this conference on the website:
The conference is open to all Stanford students/faculty/staff as well as
professionals in the bay area. You will need to register to attend the
