This is an invitation to assist in our research on Digital Infomediaries
and Civic Hacking by participating in a survey.

Project: Urban Informatics, Big Data and Community Engagement: A Study of
Enabling Organizations
Sponsor: Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement (IPCE), University of
Illinois at Chicago

This research project seeks to understand the role played by information
technology-based organizations and digital civic entrepreneurs in enabling
improved access to data for urban engagement and community participation
by city residents.

As a part of this research, we are inviting you to participate in a survey
on urban digital infomediaries and civic hacking activities.

The survey is stimulated by exciting developments in Open Data (for
example, administrative data that are increasingly available from open
data portals) and Big Data (for example, social media data or data from
sensors in urban infrastructure). Such data may be used for a variety of
purposes, for example, to monitor government transparency, to deliver
improved urban services, for business innovations, and to provide services
for urban engagement, civic involvement and community participation.

The results of this survey will help us understand the types of activities
that are being undertaken in the urban data space. The focus is to
understand processes, methods and technologies utilized, as well as
emerging organizations and networks forming around the use of data. We
would also like to identify challenges and barriers experienced in
providing urban data solutions. We are particularly interested in civic
hacking activities involving the collaborative use of a broad range of
data and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions (eg.,
analytics and visualization, service development, civic apps) to address
civic problems or to inform and engage the public.

If you would like to participate in the survey, please follow the link
below. An Informed Consent document will provide additional information
on your participation, and is followed by the survey.
