[mininet-discuss] mininet control socket

The CLI interface of mininet is really convenient, but sometimes it
would be really good to have a programmable interface to mininet in
addition to the CLI. Example usage may include changing link status
periodically, orchestrating host mobility, or creating virtual network
functions dynamically.

Obviously, mininet could be extended for each of these tasks. (For
example, periodic timers can issue link up/down commands.) However, I
think, a remote control interface would be more general.

Then one possible implementation could be a new --mininetport command
line argument that would expose the currently available CLI on the given
port. (The implementation might get a bit complicated since the cmdloop
of the cmd python module seems to block.)

So what do you think, can a control interface similar to the above be
generally useful?
