Hello All!
The next NCBO Seminar Series will be held Wednesday, June 17, at 10am PST.
The seminar will be presented by Dr. Larry Hunter, Director of the Center
for Computational Pharmacology at the University of Colorado Denver. The
title of the talk will be ³3R Systems: Implications for knowledge
representation and reasoning.²

Below is Information on how to join this week¹s online meeting and
accompanying teleconference.

of 2009 presentations through June, or for more information about the
series, please visit the Seminar Series home page:

We hope to see you there.

Title: 3R Systems: Implications for knowledge representation and reasoning.

Abstract: The profusion of high-throughput instruments and the explosion of
new results in the scientific literature, particularly in molecular
biomedicine, is both a blessing and a curse to the bench researcher.
Even knowledgable and experienced scientists can benefit from computational
tools that help navigate this vast and rapidly evolving terrain. However,
effective design and implementation of computational tools that genuinely
facilitate the generation of novel and significant scientific insights
remains poorly understood. In
this talk, I will describe a set of efforts that combines natural language
processing for information extraction, graphical network models for semantic
data integration, and some novel user interface
approaches into a system that has recently played a pivotal role in making a
significant biomedical discovery. This work has implications regarding the
use of ontological terms for knowledge representation and reasoning.
