Yeah you are right, that was the problem, the IDE and SATA thing...... now changing to IDE works fine....

Can you check that the disk in the VM is set up as IDE (not SATA).  

We haven't used VirtualBox much internally and when I set it up just now, it defaulted the disk to SATA, which won't work.  

VirtualBox works fine for me now with the latest vm.
