A really quick overview:

   Slots:
      Used in Protege Frames
      Conceptually part of some Class (although they have some  
independence)
      Can only be filled in at same level.

   Properties:
      Used in OWL
      Have own existence independent of Class
      Can be applied to any instances, even imported ones.
