Because SPARQL only operates on the underlying RDF structure.  It doesn't understand any of the semantics of OWL.

If you search back through earlier posts you will see a fair bit of discussion about the limitations of using SPARQL as a query language for OWL.

I suggest looking at SQWRL instead.
